I remember watching a film whose title I cannot remember, in one of the more memorable scenes, a man who had been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life in prison was asked how he was coping with the lengthy sentence and this was his response. “I have decided in my heart that there’s nothing I desire from the outside, I have all I need and all I want is within this prison, I live the life of a free man!”
I can confidently say I have found the right definition of Slavery/Bondage and it is this;
“Slavery or bondage is when your spirit lives in contradiction with your body and soul”.
The prophet Jonah received a message for the people of Nineveh and because he was not sure the hearers of the message would receive it well, he decided to run away. His decision cost some charitable traders who had allowed him to hitch a ride their valued merchandise. These kind hearted, peace loving and generous people dumped part of their livelihood off the ship before he came clean and said he was the reason for the storm. I think there’s a great message that the retribution he feared in Nineveh was solely in his mind. After 3 days in the belly of a whale, he is delivered to Nineveh. His one-line sentence of prophesy is heeded to and millions of people are saved. Simply calling the people to ‘Repent or else in 40 days the city comes down’
It is on that basis that I will predicate my musings on the goings on in our city.
I don’t know if I am the only one who feels this way, but it doesn’t feel right. Just like Nebuchadnezzar robbed Daniel and his friends of their identity and called them names after his gods, we are slowly being robbed of our identities. The name calling during press conferences and gatherings is unbecoming. They were once Honourable members of parliament and now they are “Horrible” Members of society depending on whom they are addressing.
Prophet Jeremiah in chapter 29:1-11, brought a message to the Israelites that qualifies my statement. After they had been overrun by the Babylonians and all the leaders taken captive, he delivered a message from God that could have been viewed as not prophecy. We know that all prophesy is to edify the body of Christ but until verse 11, (which is one of the most memorised verse possibly), his prophecy was one that wasn’t viewed as edifying its audience.
Having listened to the #Amend102b Vs #Togikwatako, you have to be in bondage, where your spirit is in contradiction with your body and soul not to know who is right and who is wrong. We need to pray for our prophets who like eagles “soar high above in the spiritual realms” that God will give them wisdom, favour and courage to deliver in due time the message we all need to heed. Short of that we are bound to throw some merchandise out of the ship called Uganda.
