This morning as I drove to work after dropping my child to school, I witnessed something that triggered thoughts that stirred up so much rage in me. I could not comprehend how a grown man, possibly in his mid 30’s parks his motorcycle on a major highway and without even seeking any form of cover unzips and shamelessly starts to ease himself…Right there by the road side during the morning traffic with cars driving past at 5Km an hour!!
I was glad my daughter was not in the car. I stopped and honked so hard with little effect until the vehicle behind me joined me to hoot him into order. I would like to assume the rest of the drivers that didn’t notice had their children in the car. How does this not bother anyone?
As I drove away, the skit by theatre factory’s Zizinga and Mendo came to my mind. In the clip a man decides to sleep in the middle of the road in the guise of enjoying the peace ushered in by the “president” he is blocking from enjoying the same peace. (See video Clip).
Again for the critical mind, I seek answers?
I don’t think it is in legislation, but if we continue to see RED plate vehicles drive like mad men with no consequences I won’t be surprised if roadside- open-defecation happens soon. I look at the Jinja bridge with pride but I am saddened by the thought of citizens like the one I met this morning urinating in the Nile off the bridge.
I am reminded that when the Queen of Sheba went to visit Solomon, she was in awe of his greatness by how his subjects went on with their affairs.
Leadership is influence nothing more, nothing less.
