I was once again privileged to facilitate the word this Sunday. Our series entitled Pregnant with Destiny cover the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 37 &39. In summary, we’ve covered 3 “seasons” to-date.
SEASON 1: The Dream
How Joseph got two dreams that he shared with his brothers and parents. The sad part is the people who he expected to help him nurture the dream were indignant and plotted to kill him.
SEASON 2: The Pit
God uses Reuben to avert the plot of killing him and suggested that he be cast into a pit with the plan of delivering him. His brothers later agree to sell him off as a slave and he was ferried off to Egypt.
SEASON 3: The Promotion:
Joseph was bought by Potiphar, who was a royal guard and Joseph begun to serve him and was promoted to be in charge of the matters of his house. Potiphar noticing the favour that was upon Joseph placed all that he had under his authority. Joseph was of so much influence that the only decision Potiphar made was the one of what he wanted to eat.
As I studied the word, the spirit pointed something out to me – “Consider Potiphar!”
Borrowing from the 5 levels of leadership by John C. Maxwell, I am inclined to believe that this royal guard must have been a Level 4 Leader and these are my reasons:
LEVEL 4 — PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT
This level can be summed up in one word: reproduction. As a leader Potiphar having identified many servants that worked for him also was able to identify Joseph and train him to be able to do exactly what Potiphar did and rendered him self unnecessary.
Potiphar invested in Joseph so much that he only was left with the decision of appetite. It was so dangerous that even his wife begun to see things in him.
Here’s how Potiphar checked some of the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.
I have realized that often we all want to be the Joseph in the story, I however think that God in his wisdom has orchestrated for us to be the Reubens and the Potiphars for someone else if only we’ll remain sensitive to the Holy Spirt.
